Duke Energy’s Crystal River Containment Coating Project
Warren Environmental, in collaboration with our approved applicator, performed turn-key coating services to Crystal River's nuclear site
Warren Environmental, in collaboration with our approved applicator, performed turn-key coating services to Crystal River’s nuclear site owned by Duke Energy. Services included sealing all existing voids in the concrete containment structure, providing a weatherproofing barrier from the elements, bonding and leveling structural cracks, as well as coating the exterior surfaces of bays 1/2 and 5/6 within the reactor containment building (10,000 SF of surface area).
For the bays, coating activities occurred over a ten-day period, beginning at the top of the structure, working to the grout level in strips equal to the width of the painter’s scaffolding. Because one of the bays extended approximately 100 feet vertically, the team established and implemented an overspray control plan before beginning work. The plan included masking the nearby building surfaces and creating tents around the painter’s scaffolding, as well as minimizing Warren’s pump system pressure to control overspray.
